So im watching some old cartoons and it dawned on me..daffy duck is a black man..yo how many times has Elmer fudd chased him and bugs into the woods and bugs bunny dont ever get blasted..only when daffy duck<the black man> stands up and tries to defend him self he gets his mouth blasted? Bugs bunny can run and dodge bullets and shyt and outsmart the hunter…but not daffy..nope.. i remember one episode where bugs and daffy was competing in some talent show or sumthing and everytime bugs went on people was cheering n shyt and when daffy went on all you heard was crickets..it wasn’t until daffy drank sum shyt and blew his ass up till he got sum respect which in turn to me says we dont get no respect until we kill ourselves off…!    This has been studied and reviewed and Daffy is indeed a “caricature” of a black man… He’s only black if you want him to be. There are plenty of instances when his beak gets blown off and they give him the black face with bright red lips and all. There are some merrie melodies cartoon that they just threw in a vat cuz they were just too racist and politically incorrect, you can see some online. Not only was bugs a white guy but he was a flaming racist against everyone. But at this time, I really don’t care. I don’t know many black men with the characteristics of daffy anyway, just lke I dunno too many white guys who are as cool as bugs.. He smokes carrot blunts and scats and can tap dance without tap shoes.. alright!

   That’s a poor argument.

   Daffy Duck’s character is that of one who just wants to outshine Bugs (by any means). He is also just the unfortunate victim of circumstance. And if you watch closely to the cartoons, you will notice that alot of attacks that happen to him, he brought onto himself (i.e. in the episode Ali Baba Bunny, when Daffy finds Aladdin’s lamp, Daffy comes to the impression that the genie is after his gold, so he shoves the Genie back into the lamp. The genie than reacts by zapping Daffy down to size). Daffy Duck is greddy, arrogant, a spotlight hog, and a deep hatred for Bugs Bunny, but he is NOT a black man.

   Besides, Bugs has been shot up, beat up, and flatten many, many times. Consider the end of What’s Opera Doc?, when Elmer is brewing the giant storm, and Bugs finds retreat in a cave. Elmer sends lighting to “Kill da Wabbit!” and Bugs, sure enough, “dies” at the very end.

   Consider these things before trying to make another argument like that.

   Actually, the latest Looney Tunes dvd set has revealed that Daffy Duck is actually Jewish. Mel Blanc (Jewish) gave Daffy a slight Jewish accent as a way of distinguishing him with Sylvester’s voice.

   I remember a scene where Bugs and Daffy were putting on a show, Bugs got the dressing room, and Daffy had to dress in the Janitor’s/broom closet.

   There were also a few cartoons that Daffy as a freeloader, hooking up with a Big Strong (obviously Black) single mother and trying to take care of her bad ass kid.

   Yeah, he was black alright.

   It’s “insights” like this that actually promote racism. Daffy was not a black man. I met many of the old animators and talked to them at length about the Looney Tunes. There were indeed cartoon characters modeled after black stereotypes (Bosko and Inki for instance) but they were not terrible offenders. The censored Warner cartoons are known as the censored 11 and include shorts like Coal Black and De Sebben Dwarves. They are definitely offense by today’s standards but they are also poignant reminders of very different times. The vast majority of old animators were not racist in the sense that they hated people with dark skin. But they were not above making fun of someone with dark skin for a laugh. But they also poked fun at the Japanese and the Germans and many famous celebrities. Keep it all in perspective.
